I will argue that Cameron is the character we “laugh at” while Mitchell is the character we “laugh with.” The main reason we laugh at Cameron over Mitchell is because of the way he acts and reacts to things, he is also the more “feminine” gay. Specifically, I will look at the couple Cameron and Mitchell. I will be analyzing the misrepresentations of homosexual characters in the hit television show “Modern Family.” I will be exploring the ways the show inserts a gay couple to convince the audience that the show is diverse but actually uses stereotypes that negatively represent and exploit the gay community.
